Instead of replying privately to Walsh, Whitmore publicly responded on her social media platforms with a heated comment, including a snapshot of the original request from Walsh.
Whitmore expressed: ‘Disgusting. It seems my representative got the following email… Niamh Walsh, I’m confident you have more crucial matters to address than speculating a child’s name and compelling someone to discuss it, regardless of the outcome! I’ll discuss my child at my own pace when I see fit.’
Instead of what Whitmore advocated in her radio dedication to Caroline Flack – kindness, respect, and consideration towards others – let me rephrase it this way: Listeners, please show empathy, treat others with dignity, and remember that the way you act towards them is solely your responsibility.
Additionally, Laura became embroiled in the controversy involving Strictly Come Dancing’s professional dancer Giovanni Pernice, when his celebrity partner Amanda Abbington asserted that her experience working with him led to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Earlier in 2016, Laura initially voiced her worries about the show, and just recently in August, she leveled accusations against the BBC for what she perceived as a form of manipulation or psychological control, termed ‘gaslighting,’ regarding her experiences with partner Giovanni.
2018 saw Laura expressing that she hadn’t found pleasure in her Strictly journey alongside Giovanni. She departed the contest in week seven, expressing feelings of being shattered, and confessed to weeping daily.
Nevertheless, the investigation conducted by the BBC ended up clearing Giovanni on ten out of sixteen accusations in September. As a result, senior executives from the channel issued an apology.
Over the past weekend, I commemorated the anniversary of Caroline’s departure by publicly sharing our heartfelt messages that we exchanged in the moments leading up to her transition.
Actress Caroline tragically took her own life at her residence in North East London on February 15, 2020, when she was only 40 years old. Her death was later confirmed as a suicide during an investigation conducted in August of the same year.
Laura posted a throwback photo of them together, along with their last messages.
The messages exchanged between the two hosts, sent shortly before Caroline’s unfortunate demise, revealed the profound affection and reverence they held for one another.
In a text message, Caroline, who goes by ‘Flacky’ in Laura’s phone contacts, conveyed her wish that Laura might assume Caroline’s position on Love Island following Caroline’s decision to resign after being arrested on suspicion of assault.
She wrote: ‘I hope you are doing the job… I wouldn’t want it to be anyone else.’
Laura responded by expressing that the message was “really pleasant” and went on to share that she had spoken with some producers, however, nothing has been officially set in stone as of yet.
After securing the part, Laura confided in Caroline about it prior to its announcement and vowed to put forth an exceptional effort to honor it appropriately.
Caroline simply replied with a red heart emoji and said: ‘I’m glad it’s you.’
In late 2019, Laura replaced Caroline as the host of Love Island. However, she relinquished her position following the 2022 season, and since then, Maya Jama has assumed the role.
In a heartfelt comment accompanying the post, Laura expressed her appreciation for Caroline’s support, sharing that their emotional farewell conversation had left quite an impact on her.
She wrote that this month, she received a new phone, and while attempting to download WhatsApp messages from the cloud, numerous old messages resurfaced – ones she believed were gone for several years. This unexpected discovery left her quite emotional.
Examining personal, previously unshared messages, I find that they reveal an appealing aspect of Caroline. It’s heartening to recall these moments, so I choose to share them now.
I may not have known Caroline as intimately as some, and she wasn’t flawless, but it was clear to me that she grappled with inner struggles. My encounter with Caroline transpired in 2011 when I assumed her hosting duties for the show “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!”

“I’ll forever cherish our recent conversations with Caroline. I never inquired about her court case as it wasn’t relevant to me. At that time, and even now, I had no acquaintance with her partner.
Later on, Laura disclosed that she chose not to participate in the forthcoming Disney+ documentary centered around the late television personality.
She mentioned that each time she’s been invited to discuss the matter or participate in a documentary, she has chosen to say no.
I’ve shared everything I could about this sad event, as I don’t wish for any misunderstandings to arise, and I must prioritize my emotional well-being. This was our final communication.
I genuinely wished she had found herself in a beautiful, tranquil place – perhaps a spa, sanctuary, or rehabilitation center. Unbeknownst to me, I was unaware of the depths of her hardships and the challenges that lay ahead for her.
Her latest message to me was filled with heart symbols. It makes me hopeful that wherever she might be now, she’s in a tranquil, beautiful place – just as I had wished for her.
Laura experienced harmful comments directed at her when she shared pictures of her baby on the ITV2 panel show, Celebrity Juice, as she resumed her work there.
In response, she penned down: ‘Stand together with other women. It doesn’t diminish you; instead, it strengthens you. Here’s an idea.’
Previously, I expressed my deep honor and gratitude for stepping into the role of Love Island host, succeeding my dear friend who passed away. I fervently hoped that by hosting this show, I could create a heartfelt and fitting tribute to my cherished companion.
On the contrary, it seems that Caroline’s mother, Christine, perceives the situation quite differently. In an interview conducted in 2021, she expressed criticism towards friends whom she considered insincere during their time of mourning.
She seemed to make a subtle criticism towards Laura for accepting the Love Island hosting job, addressing her as ‘the one who has replaced her’.
Additionally, Christine claimed that ITV executives showed disregard towards Caroline by removing her as the host of Love Island following her arrest over charges of assaulting her partner Lewis.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I found myself drawn to Love Island due to Carrie’s presence within its virtual halls. However, it’s now rather disconcerting when the commercial break rolls around and the new contestant, adorning an outfit remarkably similar to hers, strikes a pose eerily reminiscent of hers.
‘I think ITV2 could have done it a little differently. They could have done it out of respect.’
I couldn’t help but jump into the fray when people boasted about their supposed closeness to Caroline, mourning her death publicly. However, as a dedicated fan, I feel compelled to set the record straight: the real A-list friends of my beloved star in the entertainment world were none other than Natalie Pinkham and Dawn O’Porter.
She mentioned, ‘It’s tough. This week, I saw someone on TV referring to her as a friend, and that comment stung quite a bit.’
Ever since my departure from Love Island three years back, I’ve chosen to redefine my professional journey, focusing on acting and delving into more thought-provoking subjects.
